When I announced that I was moving to Actifio, some of the wags in the office immediately asked: Actifio? Is that a brand of yoghurt? Not quite lads.
But what is Actifio? Well… I am glad you asked!
Actifio is a company that has kick started a whole new category of data management which we call Protection and Availability Storage (PAS). It is not just a way to back up and protect your data, it gives you the power to control the number of copies you keep of that data, eliminating backup and restore windows while elegantly controlling how this is done with a really simple but powerful Service Level Agreement tool.
Now you may think that Product A from Vendor X does that, or a combination of Product B and C from Vendor Y does that… but I ask you to think again. Actifio is a unique product with a truly unique list of capabilities all delivered in a single product.
Now I am not a fan of over wordy blog posts, nor of converting PowerPoint slides into blogs, so for this post I will let some smarter people do the talking for me. First up is Steve Duplessie from the Enterprise Strategy Group giving his take on what Actifio is and does. The video is 7 minutes long and was recorded in March 2012. The blog posts he refers to (which he wrote 6 months prior to recording) were written in September 2011 and can be found here and here. His blog itself is here.
Next we have the company founder and CEO Ash Ashutosh on The Cube with Dave Vallente from Wikibon. This video is about 23 minutes long and is a great deep dive into what Actifio achieves. It was recorded October 2011.
If you still want more, there are lots of great resources on the web. How about these:
- Actifio’s YouTube channel where you can see customer references and how-to videos.
- The ESG lab validation report.
- The press release detailing how Gartner declared Actifio one of their 2012 Cool Vendors
- The Actifio website has lots of great information.
If you are keen to see a presentation, have a demonstration, or just talk to someone from Actifio, you can leave your contact details here. Plus if you are in Australia or New Zealand, leave me a comment or send me an email. I am two weeks into this journey (and truly loving it) so you will no doubt hear more about Actifio.
